There are an overwhelming amount of options when it comes to choosing the best window tint for your car so you might be a bit confused on which route to take. There are several perks that come along with tinting your windows aside from just making your car look good – tint protects both yourself and the interior of your car from damaging UV rays, it reduces the glare from the sun, and can help keep your car cool on those hot summer days.

Important Characteristics of Window Tinting
As you try to decide which window tint is the most suitable for your needs, consider the features you desire the most. Here are what most people want out of their tint…
- Shade – How dark do you want the shade of your tinting to be? You can choose to go really dark with 5% OR you can choose to go with a lighter shade and choose 35% or 50% OR you can choose 20% which is a good middle grown between dark and light. 20% is not so dark that you cannot see out of it at night and it’s dark enough to keep people from seeing inside your vehicle. 20% is by far the most popular shade of tint. 20% tint is also what a majority of automobile factories choose for the rear windows on their trucks and SUVs.
- Color Stability – How long will the color last? Cars are exposed to UV rays majority of their lifetime unless kept in the garage so it important that you choose tint that will last.
- Clarity – Clarity is more than just preference, it is a safety issue. Its imperative that you choose a shade that isnt so dark that you cannot see out of it at night. If you cannot see out of your windows because they are to dark, you are not only endangering yourself but others as well.
During the daytime, you can have 5% (darkest) or 35% (lightest) and you will not have any problems with vision or clarity. - Heat and IR Rejection – Heat and IR rejection are important because excessive heat is not only undesirable but can also be damaging to your car’s interior. Excessive heat in your vehicle puts more of a strain on you air conditioning as well causing your vehicle to consume more gas and loose more horsepower. Window tint that has a high heat and/or IR rejection can help you AC run more efficiently, reducing gas consumption and making it overall more comfortable inside your vehicle on hot summer days.
UV Protection for Yourself and Your Vehicle
We have a pretty clear understanding of how harmful the sun can be. UV rays are not only damaging to your skin but also to the interior (and exterior) of your car. Window tint blocks 99% of harmful UV rays protecting the interior of your vehicle from fading and protecting yourself from sunburn and possibly skin cancer that can be caused from sunburn.
Make Sure To Abide by State Laws
Before you decide on which tint you want for your vehicle, please review your state laws. Your installer will likely have information on this but doing your own research never hurts. Every state has specific laws regarding the color of tint, reflectivity percentages, darkness of tint, as well as other features that may or may not be permitted. Most states have prohibited metallic, reflective tinting on vehicles.
Save The Headache and Time and Hire a Professional Window Tinting Installer
To ensure that the job is done to your satisfaction, be sure to hire a qualified installer. A quick google search will give a long list of window tinting shops in the area, be sure to read reviews and find out how much experience they have. While DIY kits may better suit your budget, hiring a professional will save you money over the course of time. Factors that go into determining the cost of having tint installed include but are not limited to… the tint you choose, the size of your vehicle, the number of windows that need tinted, and sometimes the experience of the installer. Window tint is quick to reveal flaws, one of the biggest contributing factors to this is the quality of the film itself. Having a professional install high quality films will only benefit you as the window tint will last for many years allowing you to avoid any repeated expenses but there’s a good chance you won’t have the car at that point.
